The print

The design is a kalamkari-style figurative print — florals, trailing vines, elephants and peacocks in the Madhubani idiom. It is printed digitally in Bangalore by a specialist print studio, with the same repeat used on every piece, so the colour and pattern arrive as drawn.

The border

A wide teal border runs the length of the drape, worked with its own repeating elephants and birds, so the edge frames the lighter figurative field inside it. The off-white ground keeps the busy print easy to read rather than heavy.

The drape

It is soft and smooth with a fluid, lightweight fall — 6.2 to 6.3 metres in total at 44 to 45 inches wide, made up of a 5.5 metre drape and a 0.8 metre (80 cm) running blouse piece continuous with it. The whole thing weighs about 425 grams, so it carries easily through a long day.

A matching 80 cm blouse piece is included, so there is no separate blouse fabric to buy or colour-match later.

Wearing it

Its light weight, matte surface and easy fall suit daytime festive occasions, office wear and daily wear. The off-white and teal palette reads calm and versatile rather than heavy, so it moves from a workday to a daytime celebration.
