Kota silk, also known as Kota Doria or Kota Dori, is a lightweight, sheer fabric originating from Kota, Rajasthan, India. It is made from a blend of cotton and silk yarns, woven on traditional pit looms to create a distinctive checkered or square pattern called "khat." Kota silk sarees are prized for their airy texture, delicate drape, and vibrant colors, making them popular choices for both casual and formal wear, especially in warm climates. Jacquard weaving is a technique used to create intricate patterns and designs on textiles. Named after the French inventor Joseph Marie Jacquard, this method uses a special loom with a series of punched cards to control the lifting of individual warp threads. By varying the arrangement of the punched cards, complex patterns can be woven into the fabric. Jacquard weaving allows for precise and detailed designs, making it suitable for a wide range of textiles, including brocades, damasks, and tapestries.
