Originating in the pit looms in the Bagalkot district of North Karnataka, the elegant ilkal sarees are woven using the Tope Teni technique. This means that the pure silk pallu is woven separately and then attached to the body warp by a sequence of interlocked loops, which lends to its distinct feature. Ilkal weaves are a traditional form of handloom weaving originating from Ilkal town in Karnataka, India. These textiles typically feature a unique combination of cotton and silk yarns, resulting in a distinctive checkerboard pattern known as "kasuti." Ilkal sarees are characterized by their rich colors, bold designs, and traditional motifs, making them highly prized for special occasions and cultural events.
